Broke camp today, again getting the trailer ready for a the road.
Based on the map, I assumed it was going to be about a 3 hour trip. Even though it was a short 130 miles, there were a lot of curves!
The first 30 miles were backtracks, then we reached the town of Weaverville and headed west. It was slow going, with fairly significant hills and a heavy trailer. Gorgeous however, following the course of the Trinity River.
The temp was still in the 90's as we drove, but when we neared the coast, it plummeted. In less than 20 miles it dropped 30 degrees.
It was nice to see the ocean and foggy, cool conditions. On the drive to the campsite, we saw coastal islands, pounding surf and redwoods.
We settled in our site amongst the huge trees. Kids played in the park while I finished setting up, then we went to some of the local beaches. Cool and windy, but a nice respite from the heat of inland California.
Went for a great run though the State Park, then we all went to a little restaurant that served pretty outstanding clam chowder. Yum. Shopped a bit, then worked on some puzzles with the kids.
