Happy 4th!
Another day in Trinity Center, and we had actually made plans. They fell through.
However, we made lemonade.
The kids were signed up the morning to go fishing with "Mr. Fish", but he did not show. And we got up and to the harbor at 8! Anyway, it was just another screw-up by the friendly but inept peeps that work here. They told the guy there was no one signed up, even though we had done it well in advance.
They did good in making it up to us, by renting us a motor boat (sorry, Dad) for the morning on the cheap. So with some serious delay, we got going at 10 after a quick lesson and the realization that "this boat needs to be looked at". Hmmm.
We roared away, shooting across the lake. It is a reservoir for So. Cal., having been established...oh, I have no idea. Anyway, it is about 40 feet lower that it should be due to some very dry weather the last 2 years. They only had 3 snows this past season. The water is very clear, though, and the forest is beautiful, with the "Alps" gorgeous in the distance.
As we were cruising easy on the east shore, we saw a Bald Eagle! He was fishing and soaring around, and we stopped to watch. It was really fun to see. After about an hour, we found a location without wind (found out that the anchor we were supposed to have, well, not so much) and took a dip. With a bit of coaxing, Sophie jumped in as well. It was really a pleasant time.
After, we asked about a place to eat, and someone directed us to a restaurant 15 miles away. We headed down and found out they were closed, open only at dinner. So they told us about another place 30 more miles. These are curvy, low-sugar roads (at least right now). We did find the place, and it was actually pretty good although it had a lot of potential to go the other way. Hotter than blazes of course, but dogs got some nice trees and we had a couple of red-tail ales and burgers.
Back "home", we went swimming, for a hay ride, ice cream and kids on a "big foot" hike.
Ready for the coast, where we are going tomorrow and will be for the duration of the trip.
Brad
